Women's Volleyball Sweeps Lehigh Carbon

Blue Bell, Pa. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women’s volleyball team competed in their first intercollegiate match in history on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010.

The Mustangs started off their first season with a bang, finishing off the match in three sets, with scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-16.

Shaking off nerves and settling the excitement, the Mustangs were able to work well together to secure the sweeping victory.

Brianna Musselman led the Mustangs’s offense with a hitting percentage of .545 and seven kills. Steph Angelucci and Jalene Kicinski also turned out strong stats, with five and four kills respectively. For assists, Angelucci led the team with nine, followed closely by Corey Trego with six. Angelucci also led the team in serving with four aces. Mel Angelucci led the defense with 20 digs, followed by Trego with seven.

Head Coach Misti Volpe was pleased with the Mustangs’ performance stating, “The girls appeared a little nervous as would be expected for their first intercollegiate match, but they really took off running playing their game once they settled in. I am really proud of them for starting their season with a well deserved win.”

Next the Mustangs will travel to Harrisburg Area Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 15. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
