New Coach Winderman Embraces Challenge Ahead

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Montgomery County Community College Athletics has announced the hiring of Ben Winderman as the new Head Coach of the Mustangs Women's Soccer program.

"We are fortunate to have the future of our women's soccer program in the capable hands of Ben Winderman," said Athletics Director Bruce Bach. "Ben brings an unparalleled energy and enthusiasm to the table. He is committed to connecting with our incoming freshmen and working with returning players to help them achieve great things both on the field and in the classroom."

Winderman, who has spent much of the last 22 years coaching soccer at Hatboro-Horsham High School, acknowledges the challenge transitioning to the college game and he is committed to pioneering a program that wins both on and off the field.

"My coaching philosophy is deeply rooted in my love for the game," Winderman said. "Soccer is a sport that has given so much to me in terms of friendships, lessons, and joy so I try and stay conscious of that gratitude each time I interact with the game and its players. Teaching young people how to be players is my primary objective. This includes everything from how to train, prepare, condition, breathe, contribute, recover, confront doubts and fears, and of course celebrate."

As the head coach for both the boys and girls Hatters programs, Winderman compiled more wins, post-season appearances, and team sportsmanship awards than any other soccer coach in H-H history. In addition, Winderman has managed several youth teams for the Ukrainian Nationals, Buckingham United, and Horsham Soccer Club. He currently trains a U-15 PA Rush Boys team.

"Soccer is the consummate team sport where sacrifice of self is rewarded with camaraderie of team.  It is challenging physically, mentally, and emotionally so as a coach I must help players prepare and cope with the inevitability of struggle. Coaching soccer is a privilege."

Prior to, and in addition to coaching, Winderman enjoyed a fine career as a soccer player and as a referee. He notes playing in Exeter, England as a highlight in his soccer life.

Winderman teaches AP U.S. History and AP U.S. Government and Politics at Hatboro-Horsham HS and is the father of two. Off the field, Winderman enjoys the outdoors, dogs, and family. He is an avid camper, hiker, and advocate for wildlife habitat and recovery. He is also a published creative writer and submits regular articles to suburbanonesports.com.
