Game Recap: Women's Soccer Opens Season with Loss

What started as a solid game for the Montgomery County Community College Mustangs soon became a difficult one, as the Middlesex County College Colts rolled out a 6-0 victory.

The Mustangs looked strong in the first half, getting off five shots to the Colts' seven. However, it was the Middlesex team which was able to convert on the shots, leading to a 1-0 advantage at the end of the first half.

On the bench at half time, Mustangs Head Coach Tom Haney worked with his team to keep the pressure up and get more scoring chances. However, the Colts exploded onto the field with two goals in the first five minutes, to widen their lead to 3-0.

Feeling the heat of the turf, the Mustangs slowed down and were unable to rally after the set back. A few injuries plagued the squad, further distancing hopes of a comeback. With dwindling numbers and exhaustion setting in, the Mustangs fell into a slump and the Colts were able to land three more goals on the board before the conclusion of the game.

"In the first half, our athletes had a lot of control over the ball and the game looked like it was heading in the right direction," commented Mustangs Assistant Coach Amanda Rogers. "But as the second half wore on, we just lost steam and were unable to outplay the opponent."

The game concluded in a 6-0 victory for the Colts, handing the Mustangs an opening season record of 0-1-0. The Mustangs will play again on Tuesday Sept. 10, hosting the Ocean County College Vikings in a 4:00 p.m. match up.
