Women's Soccer Ties Golden Lions
Blue Bell, Pa. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women's soccer team concluded a contest against the Raritan Valley Community College Golden Lions in a 2-2 tie.
The Mustangs stepped on the field against the Golden Lions for the team's sixth match in nine days. Attacking early, the Mustangs pressured the Golden Lions from the starting ball. Just a few minutes into play Avina Smith knocked in a shot for the Mustangs, but the goal was called back due to an offsides call by the referees. The Mustangs tried to repeat the performance but could not score again, sending the teams into half time tied up 0-0.
In the second half the Mustangs opened up early once again. Eight minutes into play, Liz Keegan received a ball from Alex Gregory and was able to capitalize on an 18 yard shot. Up 1-0, the Mustangs continued their effort but the Golden Lions were able to even the score two minutes later.
With 11 minutes left in regulation play, the Golden Lions scored another goal taking the lead for the first time in the match. However, the Mustangs answered back with a goal from Danielle Lillo, who ripped the ball off a pass from Alex Caiazzo.
The game went into two overtime periods but neither squad found the back of the net to seal the victory. Ultimately the contest ended in a 2-2 tie.
