Bergen Tops Men's and Women's Soccer
Women's Soccer
Blue Bell, Pa. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs hosted the Bergen Community College Bulldogs on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011.
The Mustangs put forth their best effort of the season, but ultimately lost 0-1 to the Bulldogs. The game remained tied up at 0-0, with both teams just missing solid scoring opportunities, until the 51st minute of the game when the Bulldogs' Alyssa Shaw was able to get on the scoreboard. In the remaining playing time, the Mustangs battled to come back from the one goal deficit, but could not find the back of the Bulldogs' net.
Head Coach Tom Haney commented, "The entire team played great defense and possessed the ball well throughout the game."
Men's Soccer
Paramus, N.J. - The Montgomery County Community College men's soccer team traveled to Paramus to take on the Bergen Community College Bulldogs.
In the first half the Mustangs were outplayed and could not get into a rhythm. The Bulldogs scored ten minutes into play, off a free kick that sailed in near post. Just before half the Bulldogs scored again, as they took advantage of a ball misplayed by the Mustangs sweeper.
Starting the second half down 0-2, the Mustangs stepped up their game. Musa Ahamed provided the Mustangs with their closest scoring chance, with a header towards goal that just barely missed the net.
"We are going to lose some games, it happens," said Head Coach Matt Giordano. "But the way we lost today disappointed me and cannot continue. Our team did not show up mentally and physically ready to win. In this league, you can never afford to let that happen."
