MCCC Dominates Home Opener with 76–37 Win Over Sussex County

Nov. 11, 2025 | Blue Bell, PA – The Montgomery County Community College women's basketball team opened its 2025–26 season in commanding fashion, defeating Sussex County Community College 76–37 at home on Tuesday night. The Mustangs used relentless defensive pressure and a balanced scoring attack to secure the wire-to-wire victory.

MCCC jumped out early with a 20–7 first-quarter lead and never looked back, extending the margin to 41–22 by halftime. The Mustangs continued to control the pace in the second half, outscoring Sussex 35–15 over the final two quarters.

Leading the charge was Azjiona Golston, who stuffed the stat sheet with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 steals, narrowly missing a triple-double. Addison Benner added 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 steals, while Aubrey Wroten contributed a double-double with 13 points and 23 rebounds. Olivia Bennett chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds, and Mischa Bell added 8 points, 6 assists, and 6 steals in a well-rounded team effort.

Montgomery County's defensive intensity set the tone from the opening tip. The Mustangs forced 31 turnovers, turning them into 27 points off turnovers and 22 transition points. MCCC also dominated the glass, holding a 42–15 edge in offensive rebounds and a 44–16 advantage in points in the paint.

Despite shooting just 32.7% from the field, the Mustangs' hustle and depth overwhelmed Sussex, who shot only 20% overall and failed to connect on any of their four three-point attempts.

For Sussex County, Sophia May was a bright spot, posting 28 points and 11 rebounds while going 14-for-18 from the free throw line
