Mustangs Fall to CCP 63-58

The Montgomery County Community College Women's Basketball team has fallen in a hard-fought game against the Community College of Philadelphia Lions. The Mustangs suffer their first loss of the season in Tuesday night's matchup with the Lions, falling just short of the win.
The Mustangs got off to a hot start, holding a 17-10 lead with 2 minutes to go in the first quarter. Unfortunately, they weren't able to generate many points for the rest of the half after that, despite having some great possessions and getting good shots up. Only the second game of the season for Montco, they simply had a tough time putting the ball in the basket at times – but they never gave up, nor were they ever out of the game. The Mustangs, up by 1 at halftime, kept their defense active and alive, forcing bad-shot after bad-shot from the Lions. Montco matched every run they allowed from the Lions, and played with great energy throughout. They led by 6 at the end of the third quarter, but let up some timely shots and gave up a few untimely turnovers in the fourth quarter that CCP was able to capitalize on.
The Mustangs led the game in multiple categories and statistics, and the team was able to put up impressive numbers, despite the tough loss. Montco out-rebounded the Lions by a large margin, 28-18. They were also able to grab 11 steals from CCP. Guard Naiya Daisy stuffed the stat sheet with 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals, playing all 40 minutes of this game. Kaysia Norris finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds.
In the end, the Mustangs fell to the Lions by just 5 points, with a final score of 63-58 in their home opener. Although it wasn't the outcome they were hoping for, the Mustangs displayed a multitude of great things to take away from this matchup, which will be put to the test on Thursday, November 15, at Sussex County Community College (0-2). They look to bounce back and improve their record to 2-1. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
