Women's Basketball Defeats Trailblazers 77-65

Nanticoke, Pa. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women's basketball team defeated the Trailblazers of Luzerne County Community College 77-65 on Saturday.

The Trailblazers came out with saddles blazing, racking up a 16-4 lead only three minutes into the game. The Mustangs fought to regroup and were able to tie it up 16-16 on a 12 point run led by the team's leading scorer Mercedes Harris.

Harris and her teammates tried to pull ahead but the Trailblazers battled back to to a five-point lead, which they held going into half time up 39-34.

In the second half the Mustangs were able to break the barrier and take the lead from the Trailblazers. But the opponent would not lie down and the lead changed hands a number of times before the Mustangs finally pulled away in the last three minutes. Ultimately, the Mustangs came out victorious with a 77-65 decision over the Trailblazers.

Coach Kelly Donohue was proud of her team's finishing performance. "I was proud of the way we came out in the second half and focused on the little things that we talked about at half time. In the last minutes of the game we did a great job making our free throws."

Harris led the team in points with 32, followed closely by Janay Winston with 29. Mary Grace Lux also notched 10 points in the win. On defense Kristy Ragbir had six steals and Winston and Brianna Musselman tallied two blocks.
