Mustangs Roll Over Silver Knights 63-36
Blue Bell, Pa. – The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women’s basketball team advanced their record to 8-4 Thursday evening with a 63-36 win over the Central Pennsylvania College Silver Knights.
The first ten minutes of the game was characterized by a series of missteps from both teams, as the ball traveled up and down the court but rarely found the basket. With 8:00 left in the first half the Mustangs finally turned up the intensity on the Silver Knights who were unable to keep up. The Mustangs blew by their opponent with one offensive drive after another, first leading by 10 points, then by 14, and ultimately closing out the half with a 19 point lead of 32-13.
Going into the second half the Mustangs kept up the pace, giving a full team effort on the court. The Mustangs scored first and broke the 20 point advantage barrier leading 54-33 with 5:13 left in the game. The Silver Knights only earned 3 points after that mark as the Mustangs pumped up their score to finish the game at 63-36.
Coach Kelly Donohue said of the effort, “I was incredibly proud of the intensity and team-oriented play I saw tonight. Our athletes worked as a unit to advance our play to the next level.”
Leading the Mustangs in points tonight were Mercedes Harris (Norristown) with 25 and Janay Winston (Phoenixville) with 14.
The Mustangs are now 8-4 overall and 7-2 in the EPCC. Next, the Mustangs will host Bergen County Community College on Saturday Jan. 16 at 1:00 p.m.
