Mustangs Top Centurions 70-65

The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs topped rivals Bucks County Community College Centurions 70-65 Tuesday.

The Mustangs posted a solid first half performance setting the tone for the game. Ahead by over 10 points, the Mustangs took control of the action and never looked back.

Leading 34-24 going into the second half the Mustangs strove to expand their lead. With 4:49 left in the game the Centurions trailed by 15. Down but not out, the Centurions fought back and almost overtook the Mustangs within the last two minutes of the game. But the Mustangs held their lead firmly, ending the game at 70-65.

The Mustangs squad was led in points by freshmen Mercedes Harris (Norristown) with 27, Janay Winston (Phoenixville) with 19 and Ayana Allen (Abington) with 14. Freshman guard Lauren Zoltek (Lansdale Catholic) also made significant contributions with 11 rebounds. This victory brings the women’s basketball team’s record to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference.
