Mustangs Fall to Spartans in Season Opener

Blue Bell, Pa. - In the team's home opener of the 2012 season, the Montgomery County Community College Mustangs fell 0-18 and 1-16 to the Northampton Community Collge Spartans.

In game one, Brianna Antrim and Alyssa Butcher shared pitching duties. Control was the biggest concern for both pitchers, giving up a combined total of 15 walks in the effort. Northampton tallied the majority of their runs in the first two innings. After that adjustment period, the Mustangs were able to hold them to only four more runs during the remainder of the game. Cathcer Jessica Tolton and shortstop/pitcher Alyssa Butcher notched one hit each for the Mustangs.

In game two, the Spartans outplayed the Mustangs again. Alyssa Butcher started on the mound for the Mustangs and Julie Sjostrom finished in the position. Giving up fewer walks than in the first game, the Mustangs were able to play a tighter game with the Spartans. Butcher, Mariel Desimone and Ashley Costa each earned a hit. Costa scored the lone run for the Mustangs off a wild pitch.
