Story by Rick Schmidt.
The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's basketball team had their longest winning streak of the season broken with a 96-80 loss to the Ocean County College Vikings Saturday.
Coming out slow, the Mustangs fell into an early 14-2 hole to start the game. Despite battling back to take the lead by three with 2:30 remaining in the first half, the Mustangs trailed 42-39 at the break.
Rejuvenated at halftime, the Mustangs began the second half with an 8-2 run to regain the lead at 47-44. The Vikings though would not be denied, and eventually outscored the Mustangs 54-41 in the second half to claim their fifth victory of the season.
Jah'lil Williams led the way for the Mustangs with 28 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds. Dexter Shy added 14 points with 7 boards, while Darryl Foye and Tyreek Magruder combined for an additional 13 rebounds (7 and 6 respectively).
"We continue to put ourselves in big holes night after night," said Mustang Head Coach Denny Surovec, "we are capable of playing much better than we showed this afternoon."
