Mustangs Alumni Night a Success

Mustangs Alumni Night a Success

Blue Bell, Pa. - Thirty-one former Mustangs basketball players attended the first ever Mustangs Alumni Night at Montgomery County Community College on Friday, April 13th.

The night featured two basketball games pitting the current men's and women's basketball squads against former athletes who played at the College between 1974 and 2011. Eleven of the alumni had played basketball for the Mustangs prior to the reinstatement of athletics in 2008, while twenty athletes were alumni from the past four years.

One of the most recent alumni to participate was Adam Jones, who played for the Mustangs in the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Jones made quite an impact on the Mustangs program, scoring a career total of over 500 points and earning the Offensive Player of the Year and Student-Athlete of the Year awards in 2011. Jones will be graduating from Montgomery County Community College in May with an associate's degree in Liberal Studies. He will be attending Immaculata University in the Fall, where he will continue his intercollegiate basketball career on the Mighty Mac's historic NCAA Division III team.

Mustangs Alumni Night drew a number of well-known and distinguished alumni, including the sheriff of Montgomery County, Eileen Behr '76; the manager of Desimone's Café, Micky Delliponti '79; an investigator for the Food and Drug Administration, James McEvoy '76; and the owner of Flocco's in Conshohocken, Don Flocco '75. In a special guest appearance, current President of the College, Dr. Karen Stout, played on the women's alumni team.

The Montgomery County Community College Foundation Office graciously offered a gift bag for raffle, which was won by class of 2011 alumna Angelique Walton. Delliponti and Jeremy Thomas '10 also won Mustangs basketballs.

Both the men's and women's competitions drew a significant number of spectators, tallying a total of over 120 participants, players and spectators during the evening. On the women's side, the current athletes defeated the alumni, while the men's game resulted in a victory for the alumni squad.

"This was a really exciting event for everyone involved," commented Mustangs Athletic Director Bruce Bach. "The level of enthusiasm remained high throughout the evening and everyone seemed to have a good time."
