Colonials Top Men's Basketball
Blue Bell, Pa. – The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men’s basketball team lost 75-81 to the Community College of Philadelphia Colonials Wednesday.
In front of a crowd of 180 fans, the Mustangs and Colonials battled in their first meet-up of the season.
Early in the first half both teams struggled to maintain possession of the ball. The Mustangs opened scoring with two points from Patrick Morris and built up a 6-0 lead within four minutes. However, the Colonials fought back to tie up the game at nine points apiece by the 12:39 mark.
Once tied up, both teams had trouble earning a significant lead, as control of the game bobbled back and forth between them. But with less than eight minutes remaining, the Colonials finally started to pull away, bumping up their score to 22 points while holding the Mustangs scoreless for over four minutes. Morris ended the Mustangs’ drought at 4:30, but the Mustangs found themselves behind 22-31 by half time.
In the second half the Mustangs did not let the Colonials bolster their lead. The Mustangs won the half, outscoring the Colonials 51-50, but the effort was not enough to make up for the point deficit built up in the first half. The well-matched game concluded with a Colonials victory of 81-75.
Adam Jones led the Mustangs in points with 20, followed by Jarell Gardner with 17 and Morris with 11. Gardner also notched nine rebounds in the competition.
The Mustangs’ record is now 9-3 overall, 6-2 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC). Next, the team will travel to Luzerne County Community College on Saturday, Dec. 11.
