Mustangs Knock Out Trailblazers in EPCC Quarterfinal
Blue Bell, Pa. � In its first 2011 Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference post-season game, the Montgomery County Community College Mustangs basketball team held their winning position against the Luzerne County Community College Trailblazers. Though the second half proved tough for the Mustangs, they prevailed in the end 80-73.
There was no surprise when the Mustangs took control of the first half, as they had in previous games against the Trailblazers. Both teams matched point for point in the first five minutes of the game before the Mustangs broke into the leading position. Defensive errors left the Trailblazers scrambling for points on turnovers while Adam Jones enjoyed a strong scoring rhythm during the half, solidifying their position going into the locker room. The Trailblazers left the court trailing 46-32.
The game turned tricky for the Mustangs during the second half. Slowly plotting their comeback, the Trailblazers sought to avenge their loss in the first half. Plans start to unravel for the Mustangs while the Trailblazers begin to rack up points, closing in on the lead. The score was tied 65-65 by the middle of the second half leaving the Mustangs confused and with no other option than to reset their strategy and push.
The Mustangs slowly bounced back while fighting for every point and finally sat back in the winner�s seat with six minutes left in the half. The Trailblazers put up a good fight, but the game ended with the Mustangs clinching the victory of 80�73.
Leading the Mustangs in scoring were sophomore letterman Adam Jones doubling with 19 points and 15 rebounds, freshman Maleek Singleton making another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and sophomore Nick Roman with a total of 11 points.
The Mustangs� record is now 24-4 overall and 16-3 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference.
