Centurions Retreat with Mustangs Win

Blue Bell, Pa. – The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs basketball team returned from the holiday break ready to continue their winning streak. After a rusty start in the first half, the Mustangs came back on the attack and stole the lead from the Centurions winning the game with an ending score of 92-68.

The first half opened with the Centurions scoring two in the first minute followed by the Mustangs’ retaliation of a three-point shot. However, the tone would not be set until after some struggles. The 12:00 minute mark signaled the Mustangs’ aggressive effort to score and eventually the home team was able to take the lead within the last three minutes of the game. Repeated three-point shots by Nick Roman, and a slam-dunk in the last few minutes of the half left the Centurions something to think about while heading to the locker room at a loss of 34-41.

Having lost control of their lead, the Centurions returned to the game with good intentions but were unable to break the Mustangs’ momentum. Foul calls led to increased aggression in the second half’s fight for points. The Mustangs kept their lead with continuous steals, forced turnovers and precise shots dominating the remainder of the game. The Centurions went home with a loss and a game ending score of 92-68.

Major contributors to the Mustangs were Adam Jones with 17 total points and six rebounds, followed by Nick Roman with a total of 16 points and five steals and Dante Selby with 14 points and eight rebounds. Also chipping in were Marcus Langley with 14 points and seven rebounds and Maleek Singleton with 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

The Mustangs’ record is now 17-3 overall and 10-2 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference. Next, the team will tip off against Lehigh Carbon Community College at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22.
