Mustangs Defeat Bears 90-74

Blue Bell, Pa. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's basketball team defeated the DeVry University: Fort Washington Bears 90-74 Thursday.

The Mustangs started strong with a 14-4 opening lead over the visiting Bears. But the Bears were able to close in on the Mustangs, getting within two points of the home team a number of times during the first half.

With one minute left before half time, newcomer Phillip Michaels (Robert Vaux) tipped in a basket, giving the Mustangs a four-point lead. The team was able to maintain that lead going into half time at a 41-37 advantage.

The Bears stepped onto the court with determination at the start of the second half, tying up and subsequently taking the lead two and a half minutes into play. Adam Jones was able to earn the game back for the Mustangs with a successful three-point shot a few seconds later. The play initiated a breakaway for the Mustangs, who built a 10-point lead by the half way mark. The team kept up the momentum, posting a 17-point lead with 5:00 left and ultimately winning the game 90-74.

Jones led the Mustangs with 18 points and five rebounds, followed by Marcus Langley with 13 points and five rebounds and Dan Drennen with 12 points and four rebounds. Newcomers Joshua Ingram (Northeast) and Maleek Singleton (Robert Vaux) did well in their first appearances, notching seven and six points respectively.

The Mustangs are now 12-3 overall. Next the team will host Johnson College at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011.
