Mustangs Fall to Cougars

Schnecksville, Pa. – The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men’s basketball team lost to the Lehigh Carbon Community College Cougars 88-98 on Wednesday Jan. 27, 2010.

For the second game in a row the Mustangs got off to a faulty start and found themselves trailing their opponent at half time. Down 32-48 at the beginning of the second half, the Mustangs were determined to make a comeback. With 8 minutes left in the game the team finally came within one point of the Cougars, more than doubling their score to threaten the Cougars with a 66-67 game.

But as was the case with Monday night’s game against the Thaddeus Stevens Bulldogs, the Mustangs were unable to seal the deal. In the last minutes of the game, the Cougars were able to expand their lead by 10 points to put away the Mustangs 88-98.

Top scorers for the Mustangs were Dominic Oliver (Cheltenham) with 22 points, Michael Acquaviva (Plymouth Whitemarsh) with 20 points, Tabias Thompson (PET Charter) with 20 points, and Adam Jones (North Penn) with 18.

The Mustangs are now 17-6 overall and 15-3 in the EPCC. Next, the team will host the Trailblazers of Luzerne County Community College in their final home game of the regular season on Monday Feb. 1, 2010. At this game second year sophomore players Brandon Essrig (Upper Merion), Colin Stanton (Souderton), Marvin Craig (Norristown), Dominic Oliver (Cheltenham), and Michael Acquaviva (Plymouth Whitemarsh) will be honored for their contributions to the team over the past two years.
