Mustangs Top Division II Blue Jays 72-64

Blue Bell, Pa. – On Saturday Jan. 9, 2010 the NJCAA Division III Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men’s basketball team defeated the NJCAA Division II Manor College Blue Jays 72-64. 

The Mustangs took their home court with intensity at the start of the game, winning the opening tip off and posting to the scoreboard first. The Blue Jays tried to keep up with the pace of the Mustangs’ game but the home team was able to stay two to four points ahead of the visiting Blue Jays for most of the first half. 

By half time, the Mustangs had a slight four point advantage over the Blue Jays, sending the teams into the second half at a score of 36-32. But the Blue Jays came back with ferocity at the start of the second half, scoring five points in a row to pull ahead 37-36. 

The teams battled in back and forth action, each losing and regaining the lead a number of times. With 9:30 left on the clock, the game was all tied up at 50-50. The Blue Jays then took a small lead over the Mustangs and were able to hold it until the tide turned for the team. 

Two players on the Blue Jays fouled out between the 2:00 and 1:28 marks and Mustangs 20 Dominic Oliver (Cheltenham) put his team ahead 63-62 with two in a row at the foul line. The Blue Jays tried frantically to regain the lead but their fate was sealed when 25 Victor Wardrope (Kensington) fouled out, leaving the Blue Jays with only four men on the court. 

The Mustangs finished the job with foul shots earning a winning final score of 72-64. The Mustangs are now 11-4 overall and 9-1 in the EPCC. Next, the team will host Delaware County Community College at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday Jan. 12.
