Colonials Hand Mustangs First EPCC Loss

The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men’s basketball team suffered their first conference loss of the season to the Community College of Philadelphia Colonials Tuesday evening.

Both teams stepped onto the Mustangs home court Tuesday to defend their spotless Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) records. The Colonials, 9-0 in the EPCC, won the tip off but were unable to convert their possession. The Mustangs, also 9-0 in the EPCC, wrangled a loose ball to sink the first points of the game within the first minute of play.

Throughout the first half, the teams battled back and forth for the lead. At half time the Mustangs trailed the Colonials by three at a score of 40-37.

The Mustangs and the Colonials continued to play a tight game well into the second half. Neither team led the other by more than five points until the last two minutes of the game when the Colonials managed to pull ahead further. Unable to recover from the deficit, the Mustangs ultimately lost to the Colonials 83-73.

Highlights in the loss include a 17-10 double-double by Michael Acquaviva (Plymouth Whitemarsh) and a strong showing by Tabias Thompson (PET Charter) with 17 points and 7 rebounds. The Mustangs’ record is now 10-3 overall, 9-1 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC).
