Brookdale Defeats Mustangs in Final Innings

Blue Bell, Pa. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs were defeated by the Brookdale Community College Jersey Blues 7-16 on Monday, March 28, 2011.

The Mustangs and the Jersey Blues remained neck and neck for much of the game. By the top of the sixth inning, the Jersey Blues were up 6-4 over the Mustangs and looking for a way to secure the win.

In the first five innings Mustangs pitcher Willie Schaeffer racked up five strikeouts, but also allowed five hits. Brookdale tried to capitalize on the inconsistent performance, notching two hits and and two runs to bolster their lead to 8-4. Relief pitcher Tyler Guentter came onto the field for the Mustangs but could not prevent Brookdale from gaining momentum. The Jersey Blues scored once more in the sixth inning and tacked on seven more runs to clinch the 16-7 victory.

Both the Mustangs and the Jersey Blues sent over 50 batters to the plate and each team notched 13 hits. On the Mustangs offense, Mike Ferrier, Nate Rovenolt and Ron Levan had three hits apiece. In the field Mustangs relief pitcher Mike Suder pitched one inning, allowing no runs.

The Mustangs are now 7-16 overall, 2-4 in NJCAA Region XIX.
