Baseball Splits Double Header with Dukes

Vineland, N.J. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs split a double header against the Cumberland County College Dukes on Saturday, Mar. 5, 2011.

In game one the Mustangs defeated the Dukes 4-1. Steven Hopwood opened up the pitching for the Mustangs, pitching the first two innings and giving up only one unearned run. Leadoff hitter Kyle Dougherty scored two runs, while teammate Mark Trainor went 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Willie Schaeffer, Mike Ferrier and Tyler Gregg each earned an RBI in the effort. The winning pitcher was Tom Stolzer, who entered the game in the fifth inning, striking out eight and giving up no runs.

Tyler Guentter was the losing pitcher for the Mustangs in the 0-2 decision in game two. Guentter pitched six innings, racking up six strikeouts but giving up two runs. The winning pitcher from the Dukes was J. Baez, who held the Mustangs to three hits and struck out eight. The Mustangs stranded seven runners during the game, including stranding players in a bases loaded situation in the first inning.

The Mustangs are now 3-1 overall and will face the Delaware County Community College Phantoms at home on Wednesday, Mar. 9 at 3:30 p.m.
