Baseball Wins Season Opener

Blue Bell, Pa. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs baseball team defeated the Valley Forge Christian College Patriots 16-1 on Wednesday, Mar. 2, 2011.

Though the game was called due to darkness after just five innings, the Mustangs were still able to run up a substantial lead and ultimate victory on the Patriots. The highlight of the Mustangs' performance was a grand slam home run by Mike Ferrier in the third inning, which accounted for the Mustangs' final four runs.

The Mustangs' winning pitcher was Nate Sobczyk who notched one hit and one unearned run in four innings pitched. Relief pitcher Mike Suder pitched one inning, allowing no runs.

The Mustangs are now 1-0 overall and 0-0 in the NJCAA DIII Region XIX. Next the team will travel to Cumberland County College on Saturday, March 5 for a double header against the Dukes. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
