Mustangs Fall to No. 1 Roadrunners

Sewell, N.J. � The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men�s baseball team fell to the Gloucester County College Roadrunners 9-19 on Thursday, Apr. 15, 2010. The Roadrunners are currently ranked first in the NJCAA Division III Top Ten National Poll.

Giving up four runs in the first inning and six unearned runs in the third, the Mustangs found themselves in a deep hole early in the game. By the top of the fifth inning, the Mustangs had put seven men on base but none were able to find home plate, leaving the Mustangs in a 14-0 rut.

However, the Mustangs rallied in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring a total of nine runs to close the gap to 9-14. But the Roadrunners fought back, scoring five more runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to bring their lead to 19-9. Mustangs Head Coach Lou Lombardo contributes the resurgence to walks issued by the Mustangs pitching staff.

Game highlights for the Mustangs include two runs, a double, and a triple by \#Mike Caracappa\# (Plymouth Whitemarsh), who went 3-for-4; two runs, two RBIs, and a double by \#Will Sinnott\# (Phoenixville), who went 1-for-3; one run and two RBIs for \#Kristian Von Keil\# (Emmaus), who went 2-for-5; and one run by \#Jacob Lehotta\# (Souderton), who went 2-for-5. The losing pitcher for the Mustangs was \#Ed Skilton\# (Kennedy-Kendrick).

The Mustangs baseball team is now 11-16 overall (4-9 NJCAA Region XIX Division III). Next the team will host the Drexel University Dragons on Saturday, Apr. 17 at 12:00 p.m.
