Nationally Ranked Roadrunners Best Mustangs
Blue Bell, Pa. – The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs lost 2-20 to the nationally ranked Gloucester County College Roadrunners on Thursday, Apr. 1, 2010.
The Mustangs started strong shutting down the Roadrunners' offense and posting on the scoreboard first with a two-run home run by Kristian Von Kiel (Emmaus) in the first inning. But the Mustangs were unable to hold or improve upon their early 2-0 lead. In the subsequent innings, the Roadrunners, five-time national champions and 16-time regional champions (NJCAA Region XIX DIII), banged out 19 hits (five doubles and two home runs), handing the Mustangs 20 unanswered runs.
Patrick Quinn (Swenson AT) was the losing pitcher for the Mustangs issuing 17 hits, 12 earned runs, and five walks. Relief pitcher Ed Skilton (Kennedy Kendrick) issued two hits, one earned run, and two walks.
In other Mustangs news, third baseman Chris Connor (Methacton) is on the disabled list with a broken ankle, acquired in the March 27th game against Middlesex. Outfielder and designated hitter Tom Brucker (Upper Dublin) is benched for the rest of the week with a strained knee.
The Mustangs baseball team is now 7-10 overall (2-3 NJCAA Region XIX Division III). The team will travel to Northampton County Community College for a double header on Saturday, Apr. 3. Game one begins at 12:00 p.m.
