Mustangs Go One and One Against Colts
Edison, N.J. – The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's baseball team went one and one against the Middlesex County College Colts on Saturday, Mar. 27, 2010.
In their first matchup, the Colts racked up 19 runs against the Mustangs. Justin Risko (Pottsgrove) was the losing pitcher, tallying two hits, six walks, nine runs and five errors. Reliever Patrick Quinn (Swenson AT) allowed three walks, nine hits, and ten runs while accumulating ten errors. The highlight of the game was a three-run home run, hit by Jacob Lehotta (Souderton) in the top of the fourth inning. Lehotta's home run was the only scoring play in the game for the Mustangs, resulting in a 3-19 loss to the Colts.
Game two proved to be a closer battle for the Mustangs and the Colts, going into extra innings and culminating in a 9-4 win for the Mustangs. The Mustangs were up 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when a balk call was made against Mustangs pitcher John Alexander (Cheltenham). On the call, a Colts player was advanced to third base and scored on a subsequent play to tie the game 4-4. In the top of the eight inning Lehotta scored, followed by three more Mustangs, and in the bottom of the inning Alexander was able to hold the Colts off for the win.
Alexander completed the game with eight innings pitched, allowing only seven hits, and tallying four earned runs, two walks, and one strikeout. On offense Mike Caracappa (Plymouth Whitemarsh) went 1-for-5 with two runs and a stolen base, Lehotta went 2-for-3 with two runs and a double, Eric Smith (Plymouth Whitemarsh) went 2-for-4 with one double, Kristian Von Kiel (Emmaus) went 1-for-5 with one RBI, and Will Sinnott (Phoenixville) went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
The Mustangs baseball team is now 6-9 overall (2-2 NJCAA Region XIX Division III). The team will host Lehigh University B team on Sunday, Mar. 28. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
