Baseball Season Preview
It has been long awaited but the Mustangs baseball team will finally take the field on April 3, 2021 when they take on Delaware County Community College. With the season a couple weeks away I sat down with Head Coach Mike Fitzgerald to get his thoughts on the upcoming season.
Q: What are your goals for this year's team?
A: One of our goals is to turn heads this season. We will be playing some great competition this season which will provide great opportunities for our guys. One of our goals is to have every player excel so they have to best opportunity to continue their academic and baseball college careers. As always in this season and every season, we want to bond as a team and a family everyday on the field and off because we care about each other. We can only win in baseball and in life if we work together.
Q: How does it feel to being taking the field after the pause caused by the pandemic?
Amazing, Awesome, Long overdue. Just getting back on the field for practice felt terrific for everyone. It was great to see everyone's expressions on day one.
Q: Can you talk about your sophomore class and the leadership that they have brought to the program?
A:We have great leadership. Elias Gehman has shown terrific team leadership. When he see's me working with someone or see's they need a little help he is there. Colt Narciso and Mike Kelly are veteran leaders out on the field and their hard work and no nonsense approach has resonated with the entire team.
Q: Can you talk about the freshman class, and the excitement surrounding this class?
A: Our freshman are seeing the leadership from our sophomores. They know they are expected to contribute for the success of our team and they work hard to accomplish that. I think we have a very strong freshman class that will make an immediate impact.
Q: Are there any standout guys that you want to highlight that you are expecting to have a big season?
A: Mike Kelly, Colt Narciso, Elias Gehman as true sophomores from our team. Each of them have to opportunity to move on to D2 and higher including being drafted.
Anthony Xanthopoulos, Hunter Hamlin, Lance Templeton and Trey Livingstone I also think will have big seasons.
