Volleyball traveled to Community College of Philadelphia on Thursday to take on the colonials. With a new coach and returning only one starter, no one was really sure what to expect for the 2018 season. They swept Manor 3-0 on Tuesday, but that could easily be seen as a fluke or beginner's luck. However, the girls came to Philadelphia with a chip on their shoulder.
They started the match off strong, with an incredible combined 14 service aces in the first set alone. That set went to the Mustangs, 25-8.
The Colonials tried to battle back, but the Mustang defense grabbed everything they threw at them. Every Mustang had at least one dig during the course of the match, highlighted by Rebecca Godshall's (FR, Souderton) six and Molly McCarthy's (FR, Souderton) five. Montgomery took the second set 25-10.
Even with their success in the first two sets, the Mustangs still played strong as a team. Laura Reeser (SO, Hatfield), who had 12 total assists in the match, continued to set her teammates up. Miljana Vukoslavovik (FR, Belarus) and Rebecca Godshall continued to pound the ball, grabbing six and seven kills respectively. When the dust had settled, set three ended with a 25-6 score and another Mustang sweep.
"I was glad that we were able to keep the momentum from Tuesday going," said head coach Rob Childs, "We've been serving really well the past two games, so we're hoping we can continue that heading into the next match."
This is the Mustangs' second sweep in a row. As Childs mentioned, Montgomery has been serving incredibly well, wracking up an amazing 56 service aces in only two games.
Next, the Mustangs will take on Bucks County Community College and Harrisburg Area Community College in a tri-match in Harrisburg. That match will take place on Saturday, September 8th at 12:00pm.
