Blue Bell, PA: The Mustangs Women's Volleyball team defeated the Jersey Blues of Brookdale Community College in the second round of the NJCAA Region XIX playoffs. The Mustangs needed the fourth game to secure the win with match scores of 25-19, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23.
Freshman setter Carley Odorisio (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) led the team with 10 kills and 28 assists. Freshman outside hitter Jenna Drummond (Harleysville, PA) had 8 kills and sophomore middle hitter Hiba Elrhanjaoui added 7. Sophomore libero Tara Moffa (Hatfield, PA/North Penn led with 33 digs. As a team, they had 40 kills, 35 assists, 9 service aces, and 110 digs.
Coach Rivera stated after the game "I am so proud of the team especially the 1st and 2nd set. Every single player did their part. This was a team win, there was not just one stand out player. Instead there was a group of exceptional players. This is the standard for this team. We continue to work hard at practice and it continues to show in their game play. Although we are down a few injuries, every player rallied together to be one unit and take the win."
The Mustangs improve to 18-3 and advance to the NJCAA Region XIX semi-finals this Saturday at 1:00 PM vs. Ocean County College at Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, PA. The Mustangs defeated the Vikings in their first match-up in 4 sets. Ocean County College is 14-2 overall and 2nd seed in the tournament.
The Mustangs are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX and the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC).
