Women's Basketball: McDonnell Mustangs New Head Coach for Women's Basketball

Blue Bell, PA: Montgomery County Community College is pleased to announce Mr. Mark McDonnell as its next Head Women's Basketball Coach.

McDonnell has been involved with basketball as a player and coach for the last 30 years. A native of Hollidaysburg PA, he was the starting point guard for his alma mater, the Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers, where he led his team in assists and steals for two consecutive years.

He attended Saint Francis University, where he competed at the Division I level for the Red Flash Tennis Team and in 1992 was named to the Academic All American Team.

After school, McDonnell returned to Hollidaysburg as an assistant for the boys' basketball team, where he remained for 10 years. In those years, he was part of two district titles and one state playoff appearance. He was also very instrumental in starting Hollidaysburg's Elementary Basketball Program.

In 2006 Mark, his wife Shannon, and their 5 children moved to Southeastern PA where he developed and operated a basketball skills and fundamental program for children ages 5-18. McDonnell's program, called SWISH, still operates today.

In 2014 McDonnell joined Division II "powerhouse", Holy Family University Women's Basketball Team as an assistant, where they went 21-10, won the CCAC Conference, and beat the # 1 seeded team in the first round of the playoffs.

" I am very thankful for Montgomery County Community College administration for giving me the opportunity to develop a program in which the players and college can be proud of. I am excited to begin and look forward to January when we move into our new facility!"

McDonnell has a degree in Sociology and a teaching certificate from Saint Francis University. He currently resides with his family in Phoenixville, PA.
