Game Recap: Bucs Pull Away In 2nd Half, Top Mustangs

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Playing without sophomore guard India Williams, a short-handed Mustangs women's basketball team put up a valiant effort in a 67-39 loss to the Buccaneers of Atlantic Cape Community College in the home opener on Thursday.

Freshman guard Tayler Nicholson had 17 points and 4 steals for the Mustangs, but overall the team shot just 26.7 percent from the field (16 of 60).

Montgomery rallied from an early 11-0 deficit to pull within 17-11 with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half. Atlantic Cape re-established its double-digit lead at the half at 31-21, but the Mustangs pulled to within 33-28 early in the second half. That was as close as the Mustangs would get in this contest.

"I feel we need to do a better job staying focused mentally and playing together," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Vince Simmons.

Atlantic Cape dominated with its field goal shooting, hitting on 30 of its 56 shots. At the foul line, too, the Buccaneers had the edge -- converting 58.3 percent (7 of 12) free throws to a mere 14.3 percent for the Mustangs (1 of 7).

Next up for the Mustangs is a Saturday afternoon home game vs. Harrisburg Area Community College. Tip-off is at 1 PM.
