It was an emotional double header Thursday as Softball honored their three sophomore athletes who are moving on. Haylie Brass, Angelina Capozzi and Shannon Lee will all be graduating from Montgomery and will be moving on from the college and the softball program next year.
All three saw playing time in the first game against Camden County. Despite their strong efforts in holding the Cougars to no runs in the first inning, Camden exploded in the second to grab 10 runs. The Mustangs did have a strong fourth inning by scoring four runs, including Angelina Capozzi's sole RBI of the day, but Camden eventually pulled away to win 13-4 in five innings.
In the second game, Camden jumped out to an early lead again, scoring three runs in both the first and the second inning. This time however, Montgomery would not be discouraged. Katie Beer and Haylie Brass both scored in the third inning and, despite a five run top of the innning for Camden, both Shannon Lee and Kaitlyn Haines scored in the fourth inning. Even though the Mustangs would eventually lose 11-4, they would avoid being mercy-ruled, which is not a small feat against a team like Camden.
Haylie Brass - 3 H, 1 R in two games
Angelina Capozzi - 1 H, 1 RBI, 1 SB in one game
Shannon Lee - 2 R, 2 H, 1 SB in two games
