Its nearly the start of March, which means following close behind is the start to a new Softball season. The Montgomery County Community College Women's team are already immersed in practicing and preparing for their games to come.
Specifically, opening day for the Mustangs is Thursday, March 30th in a double header against the Luzerne County Community College Trailblazers.
Elisa Novak will begin her first season as the Head Coach for the Women's Softball program. Contributing to her knowledge and experience in the game, Novak has played college softball at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA. She was a 4 year middle infielder and two year MAC Academic Honor Roll Student-Athlete.
Novak envisions many goals for her team, as she expresses, "I have really high expectations for this group of girls. We have lots of potential and lots to prove this season." She adds that she is looking forward to seeing the girls work hard and win together.
The Mustangs Softball team is bouncing back from an overall record of 5-25 from last year's 2015-2016 season. There is a lot of work to be done, but that is not stopping Novak from putting all her reources in to making this a better season.
Starting the season off, she has a full team up to 11 girls, five of which are returning Sophomores. Her sophomores include Anna Morgan, Alisonn Henning, Linda Sobeck, Emma Hagel, and Hiba Elrhanjaoui.
With already existing chemmistry form her sophomores and the help of some new additons from the upcoming Freshman, the season looks promising.
Currently, the Mustangs are scheduled for 22 games with 8 of the games belinging to their conference.
The Mustangs are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX and the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC).
