Tuesday brought about the highly anticipated battle between Montgomery men's soccer and the Bucks County Community College Centurions. With both teams heading into the match undefeated in conference play, the winner would certainly control their own destiny looking forward.
The match didn't disappoint. The Centurions drew first blood in the 9th minute. However, the Mustangs answered back when Luis Cordero (SO, Brick Township) placed a beautiful volley in the back of the net from an Aidan O'Leary (FR, Methacton) corner kick. A few minutes later, Bucks scored again and took a 2-1 lead into the second half.
Late in the first half, leading goal-scorer Ayoub Mouhou (SO, Daniel Boone) was injured and would not play the rest of the game. It would be on the rest of the Mustang offense to put some pressure on the Centurions. Cordero grabbed two more shots before the game was over, but the offense struggled to finish opportunities. This matchup proved to be an incredibly physical one, which lead to over 30 combined fouls during the entire match. Their sophomore led defense kept them in the game, but ultimately the Mustangs fell just short, dropping the match 2-1.
The Mustangs will eventually get a rematch, this time at Bucks, on October 16th at 3:30pm. However, first the men's soccer team must get through Cumberland County College on Friday.
