Strong Second Half Leads Mustangs Past Lehigh Carbon

Men's soccer traveled to Lehigh Carbon Community College on Saturday to battle the Cougars. The Mustangs made a splash in their opening game with a 9-2 win over Harrisburg Area Community College. However, the pressure was on them to keep their momentum going and deliver in this game as well.

Immediately, both teams showed the effort needed to win a game like this. Ayoub Mouhou (SO, Daniel Boone) placed a penalty kick in the back of the net in the ninth minute and the cougars answered only a minute later with a goal of their own.

Then, suddenly, the game slowed down. "In the first half, we didn't put in the effort to be successful," said head coach Tom Haney. "The small field, Lehigh's physical play and our lack of pace allowed Lehigh to unbalance our attack and defense." It certainly showed, as neither side was able to score again in the first half.

During halftime, Coach Haney changed his plan. "A change in tactics and effort allowed us to change the game in the second half." And the game certainly did change. Three Mustangs, Imrana Mainassara (SO, Cheltenham), Aidan O'Leary and Raj Hogan (SO, North Penn), all grabbed their first goals of the season in the second half. Ayoub Mouhou finshed the 5-1 victory with another goal in the 74th minute.

Wth his goal and two assists in this game, Mouhou is now tied for third in the nation in points at the NJCAA DIII level. Montgomery as a team has also scored 14 total goals in their two games so far, going 2-0 over that stretch.

Due to the cancellation of Tuesday's Delco game, Men's soccer willl be back in action Thursday, when they travel to Northampton.
