For their fourth straight away game in a five game stretch, the men's basketball team was looking to grab another win at Delaware Technical Community College on Thursday. Despite going 2-1 at home during the season, the Mustangs had managed to go an undefeated 3-0 over their road trip. The Spirit looked like a vulnerable target for Montgomery, since they were coming into the game with an 0-8 record.
However, Montgomery seemed to underestimate the Spirit, who started off the game with a bang. The Del Tech crowd pushed the momentum in the Spirit's direction, which eventually built a difficult lead for the Mustangs to overcome. Despite the big difference in record, Montgomery ended the half with only a two point lead.
The Spirit wouldn't go away in the second half either. They continued to stick right with the Mustangs until the very end. Some sloppy play from Montgomery allowed Del Tech to get back in the game, but unfortunately for the Spirit, the Mustangs were just able to hold their comeback off and come away with a 75-70 win.
Larry Trottman (SO, Kipp Dubois) got his first start of the season and performed admirably, scoring 15 points and winning 6 rebounds. Freshman Cameron Reid (Spring-Ford) continues to dominate the paint. This time he led the team in both points (22) and rebounds (10). This double-double was Reid's first of the season, although fans of the Mustangs are expecting there to be a lot more before the season ends.
Saturday, the Mustangs will travel to Widener University, the home court for the Delaware County Community College Phantoms.
