Baseball Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive Against Atlantic Cape

Baseball traveled to Atlantic Cape on Sunday in a crucial doubleheader against the Bucanneers. Losing even one game would make qualifying for the playoffs very difficult for the Mustangs. Losing both would erase the Mustangs' playoff hopes completely.

The first game was all Montgomery. Six different Mustangs scored runs en route to a 6-0 win. The Bucanneers couldn't seem to keep up with the Mustangs in game 1.

However, game 2 was a completely different story. The Mustangs started with a 4-1 lead before a big 5th inning for Atlantic Cape lead to a 4-4 game. 2 RBIs from sophomore Logan Curley (Upper Perkiomen) contributed to a huge sixth inning for the Mustangs that gave them a 8-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.

All of those four runs would prove to be necessary, as Atlantic Cape battled back, bringing the game to an 8-7 score in the bottom of the seventh. With a runner on first and second with two outs, closer Luke Deleo  (sophomore, Pope John Paul) struck the first batter in the Bucaneer order to end the game.

These two wins bring the Mustangs to 13-14 overall, just one win away from .500. The Mustangs will have to win three of their next four games in order to qualify for playoffs, including a rematch against Williamson College of the Trades on Tuesday.
