The baseball team traveled to Luzerne County Community College on Saturday to take on the Trailblazers in a doubleheader. The Mustangs had yet to play back-to-back games in the same day, so many wondered if the fatigue would catch up to them.
The first game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams taking the lead at least once in the first four innings. However, the score was tied with two innings to go. Thats when the Mustangs realized it was now or never. Colt Narciso (FR, Pope John Paul) and Frankie Ramirez (FR, Winter Springs) both batted in an RBI and gave the Mustangs a 7-5 win.
The Mustangs carried their momentum into the second game with a quick run in the first inning. Despite some solid batting from Montgomery, the game was tied in the third. And then, the Mustangs woke up. Montgomery dropped five runs in the fourth, putting the game all but out of reach. Just to be safe, they would score two more in the seventh and take the game 9-2.
Last week's EPAC player of the week, Luke Deleo (SO, Pope John Paul), pitched a complete game with a 2.57 ERA and a season high 11 strikeouts. He also came in the last inning of the first game and earned the save.
Next, the Mustangs will travel to nationally ranked Northampton Community College on Tuesday to test their strength against the Spartans.
