Baseball was looking to rebound off of Wednesday's loss to Sullivan. Despite going 3-1 on their trip to the Ripken Experience so far, it was obvious that the Mustangs wanted something more out of the trip to Myrtle Beach, SC.
The first game between the two teams was a very defensive game and the second game started out the same way. Finger Lakes finally broke the defense with a single run in the second inning.
The Mustangs would answer right back thanks to a Matt Ahmad (SO, Pope John Paul) single that scored two. The Lakers returned the favor and tied the score with a homerun in the bottom of the second.
The score would stay tied, with both teams adding one more run in the fifth, until the sixth inning. All of the sudden, the Mustangs caught fire. Frankie Ramirez (FR, Winter Springs) scored off of a double-steal and then a Mike Kelly (FR, Pope John Paul) triple brought in one more.
Finally, the Mustangs made sure the Lakers were unable to mount a comeback when Ahmad brought in Colt Narciso (FR, Pope John Paul). That run ended up being the final run of the game as the Mustangs won 6-3.
Ahmad dominated the game with 2 H and 3 RBI. Kelly also had 3 H, 2 R, 1 RBI and 1 SB.
Montgomery finishes their trip to Myrtle Beach with a 4-1 overall record and a 4-0 record against DIII schools. The Mustangs will now look to carry that momentum when they take on Middlesex County College at home on the 28th.
