Gloucester Offense Too Much for Baseball

The Mustangs faced off against the best NJCAA DIII team in the country on Wednesday and managed to grab 8 runs and 10 hits. Even with that good of an offensive showing, Gloucester still managed to win the game by 12, proving why they deserved the no. 1 ranking.

Montgomery found themselves in a hole early, due to a 10 run inning and a Grand Slam from the roadrunners. The Mustangs faced a 15 run deficit in only three innings and they knew that if they didn't pick it up, the game would be over in seven innings. True to their form all season, Montgomery would fight back. In the fourth and the fifth innnings the Mustangs managed to outscore the Roadrunners 8-2, thanks in part to Adrian Grow's 3 RBIs. With those 8 runs, Montgomery had managed to avoid the ten-run rule so far. However, the next issue was attempting to hold Gloucester back while overtaking the 9 run lead that they had built. Pitcher Ron Fausnaught came in to pitch for the final four innings of the game and held Gloucester to only 3 runs, including 3 scoreless innings. However, the Mustangs were unable to put up any runs of their own and unfortunately, the Roadrunner offense was too powerful to stop their 20-8 victory.

However, putting up 8 runs and 10 hits on the no. 1 team in the country is no small feat. And, even though the Mustangs would obviously have preferred the game to be much closer, Montgomery battled till the end and ensured that the game went to the full 9 innings. The Mustangs also become only the fifth team this season to score 8 or more runs against Gloucester. Montgomery is at home again on Thursday at 3:30 pm, when they take on Luzerne.
